One
concept from this week’s assigned reading that I found interesting was in
chapter twelve about the psychodynamic theory. Abigail describes this theory as
when “people experience conflict because of their intrapersonal states”. When I
see the actual word “psychodynamic”, I tend to think of an unstable, dramatic
person who has deeply rooted issues with themselves or others. As I read
further about this theory, I learned that frustration, tension, and anxiety are
important to understanding and explaining an individual’s state of mind that
can lead to aggressive behavior as well as intrapersonal conflict. After seeing
those traits that can lead to the psychodynamic theory, I have come to my own
conclusion that stress is a probably cause for people to be defined as this
specific theory. Stress causes those specific emotions, which, in turn, causes overblown
conflict and displaced conflict. Thinking back to chapter seven about managing stress,
it would be wise to take that chapter’s advice about how to manage stress in
order to avoid the negative effects of the psychodynamic theory.
Hey,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I think you did such a great job on your post. I also agree that the psychodynamic approach is interesting. I feel that psychology and communication can be intertwined and that having knowledge in both areas would be extremely beneficial. Looking at your post, I feel that you clearly showed your understanding of the psychodynamic approach. Also, I think it interesting when you state that you feel stress causes specific emotions that can create conflict. I do feel that stress can cause many negative emotions, and negative emotions can cause conflict within themselves and/ or with others.
I agree with you when it comes to your theory that stress is one of the main causes of the psychodynamic theory. Stress is sometimes a crazy factor in peoples' lives because it can cause so many different problems. Stress is also a difficult problem to combat because it can be caused by a bevy of different things. Work, school, family, money, sexual relationships, not to mention self inflicted stress all can lead to mental and physical issues and I think you realized this in your post. I also liked the fact that you related back to chapter 7 because it directly correlates to what were learning about now.
ReplyDeleteHi California Girl,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post because I found it both applicable and easy to understand. How you think of the word "psychodynamic" is the same as my own, and how it's people who have "deep rooted issues". I always think that people who are scared the most are just acting out because of their own insecurities and fear. Fear always tends to bring out the worst in people because sometimes they feel backed into a corner so they act out. Your idea about having them learn to manage their stress (and maybe fear) would be really good because then they would be able to break their bad habits and lead a more fulfilling life. Thanks for your post!
