A concept that I found
interesting from this week’s reading is in chapter seven. I thought that the
concept of having a playful spirit is a beneficial outlook that most college
students should keep in mind. The position that I hold in my sorority is the
Director of Scholarship, so I am in charge of making sure girls are keeping
their grades up and doing well in school. School can be a stressful part of
life, no matter what your major is, especially when you have to balance
multiple aspects such as work and school. Abigail describes a playful spirit as
“changing our attitude toward life in a way that enables us to lighten up”. The
tips that are given can be very beneficial to distress yourself. My favorite
technique is not to blame oneself for everything that goes wrong or doesn’t pan
out. I have seen a lot people get upset over things that don’t work out, so
they pick apart the things that they did and ask themselves a bunch of “what if”
questions. Trying to apply the playful spirit techniques to your life can help
your stress level immensely.
Hey,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I would like to say that you did a great job writing your post! I also found the concept of having playful spirit is a beneficial outlook is important. I feel that by having this mindset, it is easier to be happy and less stressed out. Furthermore, I also like how you used a quote from the book to support your statement. This shows your full understanding of this concept and how you apply this to your life by using a personal example. This concept is something that I try to do because of all the benefits that it comes with.
I really like you technique to not blame oneself. I agree with that and wish more people would keep that technique in mind. It is so important to not think about “what if” because it will eat at you and at that point there is nothing you can really do. School can be very stressful and like you said having the added stress of work on top of school, we need to make sure to have some fun even when we think we are too stressed to do so. I think having a playful spirit helps to get rid of the stress and it helps you enjoy what you are doing. If you do not have fun at work or at school, it becomes stressful and dreadful for some.
ReplyDeleteHey California girl!
ReplyDeleteI also found that this concept of a playful spirit is pretty interesting too because I can totally relate to this. I tend to get stressed out because of school, especially recently. With all the workload it really takes a toll on my life and it is hard to distress. But I realize that having a playful spirit is helpful since it does help one to be not as stressed out. We have to take things in a better light, or a make things fun so that we do not dread what we are doing. I mean it is definitely not fun to be stressed out about things because life should be somewhat fun. Good job with your posts this week!
Hello, California girl!
ReplyDeleteI also said that the concept of the playful spirit is interesting. I found that not blaming ourselves for things that don't pan out is one of the techniques that I struggle with as well. I think that it is important to lighten up and keep a joyful attitude no matter what one is doing in order to make every task more enjoyable. I also agree that this is important for college students to keep in mind, because these are supposed to be some of the best years of our lives, and it is easy to get too caught up in the stress and let the good moments pass us by.
Hi, California Girl!
ReplyDeleteYour post was such a joy to read because I also find the idea of having a playful spirit interesting as well! I can see how you could apply this to your role in your sorority, because as you said, school can become really stressful and they might need you to be showing your playful spirit in times when they need it. I am a nanny so using a playful spirit with them and keeping in mind to keep it light-hearted would be very helpful. Your thoughts on stress and how if choose to not blame ourselves when things don't work out was very insightful and it made a lot of sense. I hope that we can learn to use this in our daily lives when needed, because there definitely are times in which we can't be playful and need to be serious. But the idea is exciting and I appreciate your thoughts on it.
