Week 16 - Post 2

The thing that I liked the most about this class was the fact that I was able to do everything on my own time. I was able to do my discussion posts way in advance and I would post each one as soon as I could. I loved how I was able to get my blogs for the class done and out of the way in the beginning of the week, that way, I was able to enjoy my weekend or focus on things for my other classes. The only thing that I didn’t like about this class was the fact that we had to post our blogs 12 hours after the post before. Although I do understand that we do that so we can constantly be engaged with this class and check in on other blogs, I wish I could have posted all three for the week at once since I had them all done in advance. One strength of this class is the fact that it was online. I love online classes because of the flexibility it gives me. Although it takes extreme self-discipline and a huge deal of organization, I possess both of those traits, which makes online classes perfect for me. Another strength was that we had all the information about each discussion post, essay, and project at the start of the semester. I saw no weaknesses in this class! I would definitely recommend this class to another student because learning about how to handle and deal with conflict is very important in everyone’s life since conflict is inevitable.

  1. Hi California girl,
I also loved this class and that it was a class you can get stuff done with in the beginning of the week. I have to agree with you about the 12 hour post. It gets hard to keep track of. For example, I have free time now so I did all three post but have to wait to post them, so this just makes me forget which post I am on, or how long its been. If we could post all three I would do it all on Monday and not have to think about it the rest of the week. I love online classes for the reason, that everything is usually posted in the beginning of the semester so you can get a huge head start on everything (not that I usually do because I procrastinate) but it is nice to have that option. I also would recommend this class, I think for being an online class this is really organized and would be a first online class for someone to try out and see how they like it because online classes do take a lot of organization.

  2. Hey guys - I agree with you both about how nice it is to make our own schedule in this class. I'm also very thankful we didn't have a group project. It's so hard to communicate with people you only know online and coordinate a big undertaking. That's also especially true because most of us are taking online classes because of how busy our lives are. I can carve out enough time to get everything done, and done well, but when you have to work with the schedules of several busy people it can just fall apart.

I feel like the 12 hour spacing out of posts is not too bad - another class requires that plus it being on a different day. Since my free time is usually once the kids have gone to bed I end up having to wait 24 hours between posts.

You mentioned that online classes take self discipline and organization, and I totally agree. I also think that they ask for more work than in person classes. So frequently the semester starts with the disclaimers of teachers warning us that we'd be better off with the in person class because they make that easier. I would love to take in person classes but online classes save me the cost of daycare. I can afford tuition or daycare, but not quite both.

  3. California Girl,
It sounds like we both had similar problems with this class. I too take online classes so that I can have some flexibility with my schedule. I work 3 jobs and have other obligations in junction with school so having to post things 12 hours apart is somewhat tedious. It was also difficult because we had access to the questions before the week even started so that we could do them even farther in advance and still not post them. I ended up having a long list of blogs that were “drafts” and then having to make sure I posted them in order which was easy but still I felt it was unnecessary.

  4. California Girl,
I had made the same comment as you, that posts shouldn't be 12 hours apart, because it's difficult to keep track of the time in between, especially with other classes and homework for the week. I also agree that the online aspect of the class makes it much more convenient. I didn't say this in my post, but I like how we were able to have the entire week to do the assignments because, sometimes, I have trouble keeping up with multiple assignments online at once. But, this class allowed for us to focus on one assignment per week, which helped me to stay organized. I also had difficulty finding weaknesses in this class and I would definitely suggest it to another students.

  5. California Girl,

I agree with you on many points that you made...there are many strengths to this class and few weaknesses. The 12 hours apart was hard to do, because if I posted and then lost track of the week and still had two left to do I could only get one done. I also agree with the fact that you loved that this course was online, which is so helpful when you're working and still want to be going to school and working towards your degree. Plus, this class was great because we got to learn so much about ourselves and others, as well as learn applicable tools to better our own lives. Thanks for your post!

  6. Hello!

I also agree with you on many of your points! One of the things I completely agree on which I didn't really think about before was the fact that we got all of our information for our projects and assignments in advance. This gave us the time to prepare early and know what was ahead of us before it was due. I didn't use it as often as I should have, but it is a very helpful tool for many people who plan ahead. It is something that we should all really appreciate.

The 12 hour blog time is also something I didn't think about but very true! Great job for being able to stay ahead and keep organized. I am impressed by that skill! :)
