Week 4 - Post 2

Instead of using techniques such as fractionation, framing, reframing, and common ground for solving problems that involve interpersonal conflicts, we can use those techniques for solving intrapersonal conflicts. Although it might sound a little strange to use those techniques for intrapersonal conflict, which relates to the individual self or mind as opposed to interpersonal, or between persons, it can definitely be applied. Sometimes people can be in a battle with themselves when making an important decision, or any decision for that matter. For example, if someone is stressed with school and has to accomplish many things, fractionation can be used to divide the conflicts by the different classes they are in. Framing and reframing can be used to seek help and guidance in other peers. Finally common ground can be used as having an “I can do it” attitude and a positive outlook. These techniques can be applied to many different situations.

  1. Hi California Girl,

I would like to begin by letting you know I thought this was a very well written and thought out post. I liked your ideas and I had some of the same. I really like how you stated that the techniques can be used for intreapersonal conflict. I like your example of someone being stressed out with school and how fractionation can help. Your other examples or framing, reframing, and common ground are also very good. Overall, this was a very good post. Keep up the good work!

  2. Hey there California Girl,

I agree that the concepts of fractionation, framing, reframing and common ground can be used in intrapersonal conflicts. I like the examples you have used to describe how they can be used in a non-interpersonal way. I have used fractionation many times with school related issues. When I am deciding which classes I need to sign up for next semester I would have to break down what is more important, or which classes I should take first. Also I would figure out what classes seem to fit my schedule more as well. I often use framing when I need help on a decision on something. Anyways, good posts this week!

  3. First off after reading your blog I think I just realized I did my reading response #2 incorrect. I enjoyed reading your post and it has taught me more about what this chapter was talking about. I enjoyed how you spoke about people dealing with their own problems and gave an example of stress at school. Using the framing and reframing concepts can really come in great use when dealing with these types of conflicts. Having an "i cant " attitude was a great example. It makes perfect sense and a common ground way of thinking can definitely help you break out of that thought process and become more positive.
